The National Weather Service in Topeka is forecasting 5-8 inches of snow Tuesday night with freezing temperatures throughout the week.
Light snow is expected Tuesday morning with heavy accumulations after midnight into Wednesday, said meteorologist Nathan Griesemer in Topeka. He said the snow would last through Wednesday afternoon.
“It will be a pretty dry, fluffy snow. We are not expecting a lot of ice with this storm,” Griesemer said.
Tuesday will have a high temperature around 26 degrees, which will fall into the teens on Wednesday, with a high of 20 degrees. Thursday morning will be dry but even colder with temperatures around 4 degrees and with wind chills down to minus 15 degrees, Griesemer said.
A chance for more precipitation returns on Friday into the weekend, but temperatures are expected to warm back up with highs in the mid-30s on both Friday and Saturday.
“It may just be rain,” Griesemer said.
The rest of February’s temperatures are expected to be wintry, Griesemer said.
“There are no signs to say spring is coming early,” Griesemer said.
