Brian Kissinger is pictured during a hearing on Jan. 17, 2025, in Douglas County Court.
A Lawrence man pleaded guilty on Friday to sexually motivated aggravated battery of a teen girl, as part of a deal in which the state dropped two other charges.
The man, Brandon Warren Kissinger, 32, was charged in Douglas County District Court with one count of aggravated sodomy and two counts of indecent liberties with a child, all felonies, according to charging documents. The incidents are alleged to have occurred between January and March of 2021. Kissinger was 28 at the time.
Judge Stacey Donovan accepted Kissinger’s guilty plea for one felony count of aggravated battery with a finding that it was sexually motivated and said he faced about three years in prison with his minimal criminal history. She said he could be eligible for probation for his conviction but that it would be at her discretion. She said he must register as a sex offender for 15 years.
Assistant District Attorney Samantha Foster asked Donovan to rely on the preliminary hearing held in May of 2023 for the factual basis for Kissinger’s plea.
As the Journal-World reported, the girl testified during that hearing that Kissinger violated her multiple times while the two were playing video games. She said Kissinger made her perform a sex act after he beat her at a game.
“My head was being shoved. I just remember my whole mind being blank. I’m a child. I do what I’m told,” she said.
Kissinger has been free on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 28.
