A late-night apartment fire Tuesday was under control within 30 minutes with no injuries, according to a representative from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.
LDCFM’s McKenzi Ezell said via email that units were dispatched t0 2500 W. Sixth St. after callers reported smoke and flames from an apartment and that occupants were evacuating. Units arrived shortly after 11 p.m. and deployed hoses to the second floor while firefighters searched the first and second floors.
The fire was knocked down by 11:12 p.m., Ezell said, and declared under control at 11:28 p.m. Residents of adjacent units were able to return to their apartments after safety checks were performed.
No injuries were reported in the fire, but LDCFM reminded the community to ensure smoke alarms work and to follow evacuation procedures in case of fires.
