A late-night apartment fire displaced three people but injured none on Tuesday, according to a representative from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical.
LDCFM’s McKenzi Ezell said via email that units were dispatched t0 2500 W. Sixth St. after callers reported smoke and flames at a two-story apartment building and that occupants were evacuating. Fire crews arrived shortly after 11 p.m. and deployed hoses to the second floor while firefighters searched the first and second floors.
The fire was knocked down by 11:12 p.m., Ezell said, and declared under control at 11:28 p.m. Residents of adjacent units were able to return to their apartments after safety checks were performed, but three people were displaced and were being assisted by the Red Cross.
No injuries were reported in the fire, but LDCFM reminded the community to ensure smoke alarms work and to follow evacuation procedures in case of fires. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
