A large police presence in central Lawrence is due to a suspected suicide near West 24th Street and Ridge Court, police said on Monday.

Laura McCabe, a spokeswoman for the Lawrence Police Department, said officers were called there shortly after 9 a.m. “and have every reason to believe it’s a suicide.”

McCabe said a firearm was involved “so we are doing a thorough investigation,” but police had no evidence to suggest the incident was not a suicide.
