Douglas County sheriff’s deputies arrested an 18-year-old Lawrence man early Tuesday after he was allegedly driving 100 mph on Massachusetts Street.

A deputy at 2:30 a.m. initially noticed a white Honda Accord speeding near 23rd Street and Haskell Avenue, according to sheriff’s spokesman George Diepenbrock. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle near 19th and Massachusetts streets and observed the driver speeding at 100 mph and numerous other traffic violations before the driver pulled into a driveway in the 400 block of Perry Street in North Lawrence, where deputies took him into custody.

According to the Douglas County Jail booking log, Aiden William Jones was arrested on suspicion of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement by engaging in reckless driving.

He was charged later Tuesday with one felony count of feeing and eluding and five counts of failing to yield at a stop sign or yield sign. He is scheduled for a first court appearance on Sept. 2.
