A young girl’s overnight slumber party ended abruptly over the weekend after a man entered the home uninvited and took off his clothes, according to a news release from Lawrence police.

Just before 2 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to a neighborhood near 21st and Louisiana streets and found several young girls and the supervising adults extremely upset.

Officers learned that two of the girls, who were asleep on the couch, woke to see a naked man in the home. They began yelling for the adults. The naked man then went toward the back bedrooms, the release said, and a male adult in the home was able to force the intruder out.

A second team of officers quickly arrested the man nearby while the first team worked to help the children calm down and figure out what had happened.

Officers have no reason to believe anyone in the home knew the man, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Medics came to check him out, then officers took him to the Douglas County Jail.

Jail records indicate that 19-year-old Jacob Dennis Gilbert was arrested in the 2100 block of Louisiana Street Sunday morning on suspicion of aggravated burglary, assault and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
