A motorcyclist died in a crash at the intersection of 21st Street and Naismith Drive on Friday, Lawrence police said in a news release.

The release said the crash happened at 4:13 p.m. Friday. Police said several witnesses saw the collision between a car, which was heading westbound on 21st, and the motorcycle, which was going north on Naismith.

The man on the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical personnel. A helicopter had been called but was canceled when it was determined that the motorcyclist did not survive, the release said.

Police said the driver of the car had minor injuries and cooperated with the investigation.

The name of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released, pending notification of his family.
