Cir Allen Keith Glover, left, talks to his attorney, Michael Clarke, on Jan. 17, 2025, in Douglas County District Court.

A murder trial where a 19 year-old man is alleged to have shot and killed a 17-year-old boy was delayed on Friday for the second time this year after the victim’s mother was charged with firing a gun at a Lawrence residence with children inside.

Cir Allen Keith Glover, 19, of Lawrence, is charged with first degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Isaiah Neal on June 13, 2024, at 2406 Alabama St.

Glover was set to go to trial on May 5, but his attorney, Michael Clarke, filed a motion to continue the trial just before the final pretrial conference.

Clarke asked the court to delay the trial by one month after he learned from a report in the Journal-World that Neal’s mother, Natasha Neal, had been charged with firing a gun at an occupied dwelling. The charge is in connection with an incident on March 19, 2025, in the 1600 block of Haskell Avenue.

Clarke said Natasha Neal’s new felony charge brings into question her viability to testify at Glover’s trial as she is to be a key witness in the case.

Natasha Neal has denied the allegations that she shot at the Lawrence home, although she has acknowledged she went to the home on two occasions on the night in question. She claims she’s been charged with the crime because she’s being targeted by law enforcement over her involvement in a protest in 2020 that shut down Massachusetts Street and because she is aggressively investigating her 17-year old son’s shooting death. A Lawrence Police Department spokeswoman denied that allegation and said “investigators have compiled ample evidence to support the arrest and will detail all of it in court.”

Clarke has requested to see the evidence in Natasha Neal’s case, which Senior Assistant District Attorney Ricardo Leal said the state would produce.

Clarke said the new gun charge raised another question about the weapon involved in Isaiah Neal’s shooting, which was never recovered.

Judge Stacey Donovan granted the continuance and rescheduled the trial for July 7.

Glover was set to go to trial earlier this year on Jan. 27, but the trial was delayed after Clarke suffered a medical emergency.

Glover remains in custody on a $1.5 million bond.
