Douglas County Sheriff’s Office apprehends Ozawkie man in connection with chase on K-10

An Ozawkie man was arrested in Lawrence by deputies after he evaded Kansas Highway Patrol troopers in a chase on Kansas Highway 10.

The man, Benz Ray Keyshawn Murray-Crawford, 20, is alleged to have led troopers on a chase while driving a black Kia Optima on the South Lawrence Trafficway around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase ended when Murray-Crawford left his car on foot while troopers, deputies and Lawrence police officers pursued him, but he could not initially be found, the release said.

A deputy later spotted Murray-Crawford around 3:15 a.m. attempting to get into a vehicle near Langston Way and Bob Billings Parkway, and deputies were able to arrest him.

Murray-Crawford was booked into the Douglas County Jail for fleeing and eluding police and for warrants in Jefferson and Sedgwick counties.

In Jefferson County, he is charged with two felony counts of fleeing from police and one misdemeanor count each of criminal restraint, endangering a child and criminal deprivation of property.

In Sedgwick County he is charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of criminal threat and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, all felonies. He is being held on a $100,000 bond in connection with those charges.
