A large fight ensued Saturday night at a Lawrence bar after a bartender received a receipt with an obscenity and racial slur written on it and asked for a man to be removed, according to Lawrence police.
Three men ended up being arrested as a result of the fight, which occurred just after midnight at Leroy’s, 729 New Hampshire St. The fight reportedly spilled out into the street in downtown Lawrence.
Police posted a photo of the $39 receipt in question. The receipt has the tip line zeroed out and contains large handwriting that appears to say “F you” and the N-word.

According to a social media post by police, after the bartender asked for the man to be removed, a security employee pushed the man out of the bar, but the man turned around and punched him. Several other people then joined in.
“Folks were fighting in the street when officers arrived,” the post said, “but (police) were able to quickly get things under control and three men were taken into custody.”
Injuries were photographed and entered into evidence, the post said. The investigation is ongoing.
The three men arrested are all 19-year-olds who are listed on the jail’s booking log as sharing the same address. One was arrested on suspicion of battery and disorderly conduct; one was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct; and the third was arrested on suspicion of battery, disorderly conduct and interference with law enforcement.
It did not appear that any charges had yet been filed Monday.
