Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded Sunday to a vegetation fire west of the Kansas River Levee after receiving reports of a large fire with smoke rising from the tree line.

Ten firefighters worked to control the fire and smaller ones that spawned from it behind the 1000 block of North Third Street in an area of dense vegetation and underbrush according to a news release from LDCFM.

The work took about two hours and there were no injuries reported, according to the release. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but LDCFM issued a reminder to exercise caution near grassy or wooded areas as dry conditions can increase the risk of fires.
