Early Wednesday morning, firefighters extinguished flames in the large cellular tower on Vermont Street in downtown Lawrence.
The Journal-World inquired about the incident Wednesday but did not receive a reply from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical until Thursday afternoon.
LDCFM said that at 2:17 a.m. crews were dispatched to the tower in the 700 block of Vermont Street and identified a small fire approximately 130 feet up the tower. A ladder was extended to extinguish the fire.
The Lawrence Police Department provided a drone that assisted with visibility and access to evaluate the fire incident.
Twenty-two LDCFM personnel responded to this incident, and no injuries were reported.
LDCFM’s news release did not indicate the cause of the fire.
