A car chase ended in two crashes and one arrest Saturday morning after police received a call from passengers in one vehicle who believed a friend was in danger in another vehicle.

A vehicle being pursued by the police crashed near 27th and Louisiana streets around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a social media post from the Lawrence Police Department.

Officers had tried to stop the car at 19th and Massachusetts streets after passengers of a second vehicle reported their concerns to 911 dispatchers and said they were following the first vehicle. Dispatchers urged the people in the reporting car to stop following. That car was also involved in a wreck at 23rd and Naismith streets. Four people were inside, and one was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver of the first car was arrested without incident and was uninjured. The friend that the callers in the other car were worried about was not in the vehicle, and police were able to contact that person and have begun an investigation into events leading up to the concerns, the post said.
