Woman taken to hospital after crash south of Lawrence

A Lawrence woman was taken to a Topeka-area hospital after a two-vehicle crash south of Lawrence on Wednesday night, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office spokesman George Diepenbrock said in an email that the crash occurred about 9 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and North 1200 Road.

Diepenbrock said that an Acura tried to turn left from North 1200 Road onto U.S. Highway 59 on a red light and struck a southbound Buick Envision that had a green light. The Acura’s driver, a 30-year-old Lawrence woman, was taken by ambulance to a Topeka-area hospital with injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening, he said.

The woman had three juvenile passengers in the car, Diepenbrock said; they were checked by medical personnel at the scene, as were the 87-year-old Baldwin City man who was driving the Buick and his passenger. None of them was taken to a hospital.
