Lawrence man charged with human trafficking, rape and other crimes against a 15-year-old

A Lawrence man has been charged with human trafficking, rape and other sex crimes involving a 15-year-old girl.

The man, Kendrick Deandre Atkins, 25, is charged in Douglas County District Court with one count of rape, one count of aggravated human trafficking, two counts of criminal sodomy and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, according to charging documents. The charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred on March 6 and 8 involving the same 15-year-old girl.

Atkins was arrested on March 21 just before midnight in the 1500 block of Iowa Street. He is being held at the Douglas County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for a status conference on March 27.
