One dead and another seriously injured after motorcycle crash south of Lawrence

A woman died and a man was in serious condition on Sunday after the motorcycle they were riding blew a tire south of Lawrence.

The driver of the 2015 Indian motorcycle, Christopher Robert Stergos, 48, of Tonganoxie, and his passenger, Margaret Kathleen Coleman, 49, of Overland Park, were traveling around 10:25 a.m. south on U.S. Highway 59 near the U.S. Highway 56 intersection, west of Baldwin City, when the rear tire of the motorcycle blew out, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle then started to slide and both Stergos and Coleman were thrown from the vehicle. Neither was wearing protective equipment, according to the report.

Stergos was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital with a suspected serious injury while Coleman died from her injuries, according to the report.
