The Lawrence Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday night at an undisclosed location in Lawrence.

The checkpoint will be active on August 2 from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and the department hopes that the operation increases awareness in the community of the dangers of driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, according to a release from the department.

The additional manpower for the checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
