One man was arrested and police are looking for a second after a third man was found “covered in blood” late Saturday near Burcham Park, according to a social media post from the Lawrence Police Department.

According to the post on Facebook, officers responded to the 200 block of Indiana Street after getting reports of gunshots around 11 p.m. They approached three uninjured people who said they had no information and were continuing to search the area when a man emerged from the woods with injuries to his head and back. He was taken to the hospital and was expected to be OK, according to the post.

The man had not been shot but said he had been attacked, the post said. The investigation led the officers back to one of the men they had originally approached, and he was arrested. They are looking for a second suspect who was not part of the original group.

Police arrested 47-year-old Shawn Michael Maki just after 11 p.m. in the 200 block of Indiana at Burcham Park on suspicion of aggravated battery. He was released on Tuesday after charges were not filed against him, according to the jail booking log.
