Police investigating head-on collision in Topeka that killed Lawrence man

A Lawrence man died after a head-on collision Sunday in Topeka.

A Capitol Police officer located a crash involving two vehicles around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of Northeast River Road, which is just north of the Sardou Bridge in northeast Topeka, according to a release from the Topeka Police Department.

Both drivers were initially taken from the scene by ambulance to area hospitals. David Neely, 76, of Lawrence, was in critical condition and later died from his injuries, according to the release. No information was provided about the other driver.

An accident reconstruction unit is investigating the circumstances around the fatal crash.
