A car crashed into the porch of a Lawrence home near 19th and Illinois streets on Monday, Feb. 11, 2024. Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor.

A Eudora man was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI early Monday morning after allegedly crashing into a Lawrence home and badly damaging the porch.

A Lawrence police officer saw a black car speed past him just before 4 a.m. The vehicle lost control and hit a stop sign, then crashed into the front porch of a home near 19th and Illinois streets, according to a social media post from the Lawrence Police Department. No injuries were reported in the home or in the car. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The house itself was not damaged structurally, but the front porch was “badly damaged,” and officers believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, the post said.

After the crash, the driver, Evan Grant Thakker, 21, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and was later released on a $750 own-recognizance bond, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.
