Lawrence man on parole for burglary conviction charged with possessing child pornography

A Lawrence man who is on parole for a burglary conviction has been charged in Douglas County District Court with exploitation of a child.

The man, Timothy Scot Brown, 53, faces one felony count of sexual exploitation for allegedly possessing a photograph of a child in the nude on or about Jan. 24, 2023, according to charging documents. He first appeared in court on Tuesday.

Brown was convicted in Douglas County in 2020 for felony burglary and attempted burglary and in 2019 for aggravated domestic battery and criminal threat, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records. Brown absconded from his parole in May 2023 and was arrested in December 2023 in Maryland on a warrant. He waived extradition and was brought back to Kansas in late January, according to Maryland state records.

He is next scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 21, and is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
