The two individuals found deceased Friday in a residence south of Eudora — apparently after a murder-suicide — have been identified.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, they are Benjamin Roy Eaton Jr., 52, and Nicole Felice Eaton, 44, both of rural Eudora.
The sheriff’s office said Friday that Benjamin Eaton shot and killed Nicole Eaton at the residence in the 900 block of East 2300 Road, as the Journal-World reported.
After a 20-hour standoff with law enforcement that began Thursday evening, officers on Friday evening found Benjamin Eaton inside the residence dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As the Journal-World reported, the incident began just before 9 p.m. on Thursday when a woman called 911 to report breathing problems. When a Eudora police officer responded to the 900 block of East 2300 Road, he heard a gunshot inside the residence, Sheriff Jay Armbrister said during a press conference near the residence Friday.
Law enforcement could tell, with the help of a drone, that a woman’s body was lying inside the house, and they spent many hours attempting unsuccessfully to get Roy Eaton to come out.
Just before 4:30 p.m. Friday the Kansas Highway Patrol made entry into the residence and found Roy Eaton dead.
