Lawrence police worked with Billy Mills Middle School staff Thursday morning to investigate student reports that a student had made a bomb threat and threatened to bring a gun to school, according to a news release from the Lawrence school district. Police determined that neither threat was credible.
Police and staff have interviewed the student and talked to the family, the release said, and disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with board policy. The district does not specify what that action will be.
The district said it had notified Billy Mills Middle School of the investigation and that everyone was safe at the school.
“Lawrence Public Schools takes all reports of threats seriously and works with our law enforcement partners to immediately investigate them,” the release said. “We appreciate the students who reported these safety concerns and thank the Lawrence Police Department for its assistance.”
