In incident near Clinton Lake, man’s body was found in water, woman was found on creek bank; no crash was involved

Authorities are investigating and awaiting autopsy results in the case of a body that was found Saturday near Clinton Lake.

As the Journal-World reported, a man was found deceased near Clinton Lake early Saturday morning, and a woman in the same area was taken to a hospital, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. On Monday, the sheriff’s office indicated that the incident in the 1300 block of East 902 Road did not involve a car crash.

A vehicle was found on an access road near the spillway and Mutt Run dog park, but deputies found the man’s body and the woman in an area near a creek — the man’s body in the water and the woman on the creek bank, according to George Diepenbrock, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

The Lenexa Police Department had requested assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in locating two people who were believed to be near Clinton Lake. Around 1:50 a.m. Saturday, sheriff’s deputies found a vehicle on the north side of the spillway, Diepenbrock said, and deputies eventually found a woman and a deceased man; the woman was taken to an area hospital.
