Driver killed in weekend crash on U.S. 24-40 identified as 74-year-old Tonganoxie man

Authorities have identified the driver killed in a crash Saturday on U.S. Highway 24-40 as a 74-year-old Tonganoxie man.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that William Ennis Jr., the driver of a westbound Ford Fusion on U.S. 24-40 between East 1600 and East 1675 roads, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle collision.

Lawrence Police Department officers and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the crash about 5:20 p.m. Upon arrival they discovered that a 2015 Ford Fusion and a 2014 Toyota Sienna had collided head on in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the eastbound Toyota Sienna, Priscilla Franks, 47, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, as was a 15-year-old passenger who suffered physical injuries believed to be minor, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Collision Investigation Unit responded and examined the crash scene on Saturday and will submit its findings in the completed crash report.
