Two Texas men were taken to a Topeka hospital Sunday after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 70 while attempting to push a motorcycle off the highway in Douglas County.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol online crash report, the accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. Sunday at Kansas Turnpike mile marker 188 near the rest area in Douglas County. Jason Vega, 40, Mesquite, Texas, and Timothy Hanson, 31, Dallas, were attempting to push a disabled 2019 Harley Davidson from the westbound left shoulder to the right shoulder. They made it to the highway’s right westbound traffic lane when the motorcycle was struck by a 2014 Buick Encore driven by Harry Taylor, 65, of Great Bend.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports Vega and Hanson were taken to Stormont-Vail in Topeka for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Taylor and a passenger in the Buick, Yvonne Taylor, 69, of Great bend, complained of pain but refused transport for treatment. Both vehicles were inoperable after the collision.
