A December preliminary hearing was set on Wednesday in Douglas County District Court for a former University of Kansas basketball player accused of raping a woman.

The man, Arterio Demetrius Morris, 20, of Dallas, faces one felony count of rape in connection with an incident on Aug. 28 involving an 18-year-old woman at the KU basketball player’s dormitory, McCarthy Hall, as the Journal-World reported.

At the preliminary hearing, the state will argue that there is sufficient evidence for the court to order Morris to stand trial.

Morris appeared via Zoom on Wednesday, and his attorney, Hatem Chahine, requested that the court schedule the hearing. Judge Sally Pokorny set aside a half day on Dec. 29.

Morris was suspended from the basketball team after the allegations were made public and was dismissed from the KU basketball program after he was formally charged. Morris is currently enrolled at Los Angeles Southwest College in California, as the Journal-World reported.

He is currently free on a $75,000 surety bond.
