Police are investigating after a man was injured by gunfire Wednesday night in North Lawrence.
Officers responded to the Motel 6 at 1130 N. Third St. just before 10:30 p.m., LPD spokeswoman Laura McCabe said, but they learned that no gunshot victim was at the scene. However, about 10 minutes later, police were advised that a man with a gunshot wound had arrived at the hospital emergency room.
Police investigators took witness statements and interviewed parties at both locations, McCabe said.
The man injured by gunfire was hit in the shoulder and was able to provide some information, McCabe said.
She said that detectives and crime scene technicians worked through the night to gather evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and police encouraged anyone with information to call dispatch or Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS.
