Police seeking man in connection with life-threatening baseball bat attack in East Lawrence

The Lawrence Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a person of interest in an aggravated battery that occurred around noon Thursday in East Lawrence.

The man they’re seeking is Anthony James Richards.

Officers were dispatched to an intersection near Hobbs Park, 702 E. 11th St., in reference to an injured male. An investigation revealed that a 43-year-old man had sustained injuries as a result of allegedly being struck in the head with a baseball bat, according to a news release from LPD.

The individual was taken to LMH Health, then transferred to an area trauma center with injuries that are reported to be life-threatening. Richards is believed to have left the area on foot, and has not been located, according to the news release. Anyone with information on Richards’ whereabouts is asked to call 911.
