Lawrence police found numerous shell casings on a road Wednesday night in eastern Lawrence after responding to a report of gunfire in the area.

Police are investigating after multiple gunshots were heard by multiple residents in the area near 15th Street and Wedgewood Drive around 7:45 p.m., Sgt. Drew Fennelly said in an email.

“Responding officers flooded the area and located numerous shell casings in the roadway on 15th Street,” Fennelly said.

Officers interviewed residents, but no one was able to provide leads as to who may have been firing the gun. One witness reported seeing a sedan go eastbound immediately after the gunshots were heard, Fennelly said.

No injuries were reported and no property was found to be damaged.
