Shooting reported at eastern Lawrence apartment complex

Police were responding Saturday afternoon to a report of a shooting at an apartment building in eastern Lawrence, according to emergency radio traffic.

Crews were dispatched shortly after 5 p.m. to 1121 E. 13th St. and found a man in his 20s with serious injuries, according to radio traffic. The address corresponds to the Maple Lane Apartments complex.

According to radio traffic, the patient had a single gunshot wound to his left side and was not breathing when emergency crews arrived on the scene. He was taken to LMH Health, and a helicopter was headed to LMH to possibly take him to another hospital.

Lawrence police spokesperson Laura McCabe said in an email to the Journal-World that police did not have a suspect in custody as of about 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
