3 hospitalized after accident on U.S. 59

An accident Friday afternoon south of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 59 resulted in three people being sent to area hospitals and traffic being rerouted for about 90 minutes.

The accident involving three vehicles occurred about 3:30 p.m. on U.S. 59 near North 1100 Road, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman George Diepenbrock wrote in an email. Diepenbrock did not provide details on how the accident came about or identify the individuals involved. He did write that three people were taken to area hospitals with what were thought to be nonlife-threatening injuries, with one of the inured being taken to LMH Health, another to Overland Park Regional Medical Center and a third to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka.

All lanes of the highway reopened at 5 p.m. Friday, Diepenbrock wrote.
