A forensics team works at the intersection of Sixth and Vermont streets on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, after a man's body — later determined to be David Blaine Sullivan — was discovered under the nearby trees.
Lawrence police on Thursday night arrested a man in connection with the death of a 62-year-old man who was found dead Wednesday in downtown Lawrence.
Police said in a news release that they had located and arrested Chadwick Potter in connection with the homicide of David Blaine Sullivan, of Lawrence, whose body was found in a clump of trees at the northwest intersection of Sixth and Vermont streets.
Potter, 34, was wanted for questioning in the death and was found by patrol officers behind a building near 19th and Massachusetts streets, according to a news release from police Thursday night.
Potter was questioned at police headquarters and subsequently arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Police said Sullivan had suffered traumatic injuries after being struck with a blunt object.
Though an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing, the release said.
Police will submit a charging affidavit to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
