A Lawrence police officer has been named Kansas’ 2023 Student Resource Officer of the Year.
The Lawrence Police Department announced on Friday that it was experiencing déjà vu after receiving word that one of its officers had been named School Resource Officer of the Year by the Kansas Juvenile Officers Association, marking the second year in a row that an officer in Lawrence has been awarded the distinction, according to a post on social media.
Cpl. Kacey Wiltz received the award for 2023. She serves at Lawrence Free State High School. The Kansas Juvenile Officers Association will hold its annual Training Conference from July 31 through Aug. 3 in Wichita, where a banquet will take place and other awards will be announced.
Last year’s winner was then Officer Shelby Brouhard, who has since been promoted to sergeant.
