A 26-year-old Leavenworth man was arrested Saturday night after a high-speed chase that started in Lawrence and ended in Johnson County.
A vehicle that had been reported as stolen from central Lawrence was spotted by police near 23rd Street and Franklin Road about 9:30 p.m. The driver fled east on Kansas Highway 10, avoiding stop sticks and reaching speeds up to 95 mph, Douglas County Spokesman George Diepenbrock said in an email. A Baldwin City police officer was able to successfully deploy stop sticks near County Road 1061 and North 200 Road, deflating the tires as the pursuit continued east on Highway 56 in Johnson County. A Douglas County sheriff’s deputy disabled the vehicle in Edgerton, and a suspect was turned over to the Lawrence Police Department without incident.
The Douglas County Jail booking log lists a Cameron Michael Garst of Leavenworth as being booked late Saturday on suspicion of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, five or more moving violations and motor vehicle theft.
