A pickup truck crashed into Gambino’s Pizza in Eudora Sunday evening, injuring two people and causing significant damage to the restaurant. The driver of the truck has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Sgt. Fred Ramirez with the Eudora Police Department said the injured people were juveniles.

Richard Craig Nettles, 46, of Eudora, was arrested at the scene, 1402 Church St., and was booked into the Douglas County Jail around 8:50 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of reckless driving and DUI, according to the jail booking log. He was released later Sunday night on a $1,500 bond.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews responded along with the Eudora Fire Department just after 7 p.m. to a report of a vehicle that crashed into Gambino’s, said LDCFM Fire Chief Rich Llewellyn.

LDCFM deployed a Kansas Task Force search and rescue trailer with equipment to help stabilize the building, Llewellyn said.

The Eudora Fire Department said in a post on social media that the building sustained heavy damage and that the two people suffered serious injuries but were in stable condition when they were transported. The Eudora Police Department is investigating the crash.

A post on Facebook from Gambino’s Pizza around 11:30 p.m. Sunday said that two of its five employees who were working were injured and that the store would be closed while repairs were being made.

“Eudora community, tonight we had a very scary situation happen that has us all very shaken up. Two of the five employees working were hurt. Please be thinking of them. We will be shut down for a little bit as we do some rebuilding. We will keep you posted as progress moves along. Thanks to so many of you that have already reached out to help, it means a lot,” the post said.
