Man arrested at Community Building for allegedly threatening woman with a knife
A 30-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Saturday at the Community Building for allegedly threatening a woman with a knife.
According to an email from Lawrence Police Department spokeswoman Laura McCabe, police responded to a disturbance with weapons about 11 a.m. Saturday at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., which is currently operating as the Winter Emergency Shelter for people experiencing homelessness.
A woman told officers she was on the basketball court when a man she knew displayed a knife in a threatening manner. Police found and talked with the suspect outside the Community Building before placing him under arrest. He was also arrested Thursday after an incident involving the same victim, which allegedly resulted in a knife wound to the victim’s hand.
Douglas County Jail booking logs show a Shaun Donovan Bernie, 30, of Lawrence, was arrested at 11:14 a.m. Saturday at the Community Building on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal restraint, aggravated battery and criminal deprivation of property.
