Authorities identified Anthony Cipollaro, 26, on Tuesday as the man who died in the unsanctioned homeless camp in North Lawrence last week, according to the Lawrence Police Department.

As previously reported by the Journal-World, a witness called for help just before noon on Friday at the camp, which was just north of the city-run campsite at 141 N. Maple St., just behind Johnny’s Tavern North. Cipollaro was pronounced dead at the scene.

Laura McCabe, a spokesperson for the Lawrence Police Department, said at the time of Cipollaro’s death that authorities found no evidence of trauma or foul play. Investigators interviewed several witnesses and a cause of death will be determined by the coroner, she said.

This is the second death in the campsite area within six weeks. A 53-year-old woman, Susan Ford, was found dead in her tent Nov. 21 at the city-run site. Police have released few details about Ford’s death but said that foul play was not suspected.

Witnesses at the camp told police that they had not heard from Ford since the night of Nov. 19 and went to check on her on Nov. 21. Crime scene investigators found no obvious injuries to Ford when they examined her body, police said at the time. Investigators were awaiting autopsy results to determine her cause of death.
