One person has died and another is critically injured following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of West Sixth Street and Iowa Street early Monday.
Lawrence Police and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews were called to the intersection just after 1:50 a.m.
Radio traffic stated that firefighters arrived to find two vehicles with “major damage.”
Firefighters extricated the critically injured person from a car before transporting them to Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.
A Facebook post from the Lawrence Police Department said there were no passengers in either vehicle, but both drivers were pinned in their vehicles. Officers performed chest compressions on one driver before the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Names of the drivers were not released, and police were continuing to investigate the accident Monday afternoon, the social media post said.
