Crews extinguish fire at home in southern Lawrence

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews extinguished a fire at 3116 W. 28th Circle that investigators determined was the result of “an electrical event in the exhaust fan of the basement bathroom.”

Firefighters extinguished an early-morning fire Wednesday at a home in southern Lawrence.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews responded at 6:50 a.m. to a reported structure fire at 3116 W. 28th Circle, where firefighters put out a fire in the basement of a two-story, single-family home, according to a news release Wednesday afternoon from the fire department. All residents had safely exited the home after the fire was discovered, and one resident was transported to LMH Health for evaluation.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Investigators believe the fire was accidental and was the result of “an electrical event in the exhaust fan of the basement bathroom.”

A total of 21 LDCFM personnel responded to the incident, the release said.
