Lawrence police investigating 2 shooting deaths at Oak Hill Cemetery as possible murder-suicide

Police and a coroner’s team on Wednesday morning investigated the deaths of two people in Lawrence’s Oak Hill Cemetery, which they later indicated may have been a case of murder-suicide.
Late Wednesday afternoon, police identified the deceased as Ana Marie Jessee, 22, of Lawrence, and Robert Sowders, 36, of Overland Park.
A Lawrence Police Department official at the scene Wednesday morning confirmed that two bodies were found in the cemetery, just east of Oak Hill Avenue and Elmwood Street in eastern Lawrence.

LPD spokeswoman Laura McCabe told the Journal-World that the man and woman died of gunshot wounds. Police arrived on the scene at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, responding to a report of a disturbance with weapons. Once on scene, officers found two bodies with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
McCabe said at the time that the incident created no risk to the public. Police spent the day notifying family members of the deceased before publicly identifying them.
