A Lawrence man was arrested Tuesday after what police described as a domestic disturbance with weapons.

The man, Shane Jamarr White, 44, was arrested in the 2400 block of Redbud Lane by Lawrence police and was later booked into the Douglas County Jail. The jail log indicated he was arrested on suspicion of intentional murder in the second degree and aggravated domestic battery, but police later indicated that he was arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.

According to police, just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to a residence in southwest Lawrence in reference to a domestic disturbance with weapons. Because of the domestic nature of the call, police said they were “limited in what we can share.” But a preliminary investigation revealed that a 44-year-old man allegedly attempted to harm with a knife a 73-year-old man with whom he has a familial relationship. Another relative, a 76-year-old man, became involved and “suffered an injury during the altercation, which is not believed to have been caused by the knife,” police said.

Officers located the suspect leaving the area, and he was taken into custody without incident, police said. The 76-year-old was taken to an area hospital via ambulance for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The 73-year-old was uninjured, police said. The case has been referred to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration.

White has previous convictions in Douglas County going back to 1999 for felony theft and burglary, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records. He is also currently facing seven counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property for allegedly damaging tires between February and April.
