Douglas County Sheriff’s Office still investigating hit-and-run incident that killed Eudora girl

A little over a week after a hit-and-run incident that left a 10-year-old girl dead, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is still working on its investigation.

This week, the Journal-World reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information about the incident on May 14 that killed Brooklyn Brouhard, 10, of Eudora. Sheriff’s office spokesperson George Diepenbrock said Monday that the incident was still under investigation and that he had no new information to report.

As the Journal-World previously reported, Brooklyn was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her grandfather, Barry Larson, 54, also of Eudora. They were heading north on East 1900 Road at about 5:15 p.m. on May 14 when a white transit van coming off the eastbound off ramp from Kansas Highway 10 entered East 1900 Road and struck the motorcycle. Both Brooklyn and Larson were injured in the crash; Brooklyn would later die from her injuries.

Witnesses said that after the white van struck the motorcycle, it returned to eastbound K-10, leaving its front bumper behind. The sheriff’s office said in a news release on May 16 that investigators believed they had located the vehicle in the greater Kansas City area and were working to identify the driver.
