Two men were killed in a shooting Tuesday evening in western Lawrence, according to Lt. David Ernst with the Lawrence Police Department.

First responders were called to the Hy-Vee store at 3504 Clinton Parkway at 9:41 p.m. Tuesday. Radio traffic from first responders on the scene indicated that two people had been shot in the store parking lot.

One of the men was dead at the scene and the other died later at an area hospital, according to Ernst.

Officers reportedly had a gun secured at the scene.

Police were talking to four people near the scene, Ernst said, but police did not yet know their involvement.

The identities of the deceased were not released on Tuesday night, and police had provided no explanation on a possible motive behind the parking lot shootings.

Ernst had no further immediate details Tuesday night.
