A Lawrence man has been charged with burglary while on bond for rape charges in Douglas County.
Isaias Esai Rojo, 26, has been charged with one felony count of burglary of a firearm, one felony count of theft, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one misdemeanor count of theft.
The charges relate to an incident on April 2, when a resident allegedly saw Rojo leaving the resident’s home carrying property in the 800 block of East 12th Street, said Lt. David Ernst with the Lawrence Police Department. When the resident later searched the home, the resident found that money, valuables and a firearm were missing, Ernst said.
Rojo was not contacted at the time the report was made but was later arrested on a warrant for the incident on May 8, around 10:15 p.m in the 700 block of New Hampshire Street after an officer who knew of his warrant recognized Rojo and made contact with him, Ernst said.
Rojo is out of jail on a $100,000 bond for rape charges from April of 2021. He is accused of raping two people, ages 18 and 19, on July 6, 2020. He was arrested on April 28, 2021, and bonded out on Oct. 28. The bond was posted by American Outlaw Bail Bonds, according to court records.
The same company bonded him out Tuesday on a $25,000 bond for the burglary and theft charges.
Rojo is scheduled to go to trial for the rape charges on June 13. His next appearance for the burglary charge is scheduled for June 3.
Rojo was convicted in a Douglas County District Court in May of 2018 for burglary and was sentenced to 16 months in prison by Judge Sally Pokorny, according to court records.
