A former Douglas County employee was sentenced Thursday in Douglas County District Court to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years in a child sex crime case.
Timothy Glen Martins, 47, was convicted in May of four counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and one count of indecent liberties with a child. One of the convictions of aggravated indecent liberties was for his actions with a child under 14 years old, which is an off-grid felony and comes with a minimum sentence of 25 years without the possibility of parole.
Judge Gunnar Sundby also sentenced Martins to an additional 132 months for the remaining counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. All of his sentences are set to run concurrently.

As previously reported by the Journal-World, Martin’s convictions are related to an environment in his home where he participated in naked cuddling with two children in his care from 2012 to 2017. The victims testified that he regularly cuddled with them while they were nude beginning at a young age and that on more than one occasion the cuddling escalated to sexual contact.
Martins worked as an IT specialist for Douglas County at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, and he was a Shawnee County corrections officer for more than 10 years before that.
Martins’ wife, Lorene Rose Martins, 47, has also been charged in connection with the case. She is charged with two felony counts of aggravated endangerment of a child and one misdemeanor count of intimidation of a witness, according to court documents.
Prosecutors allege that Lorene Martins was aware of her husband having sexual contact with one of the children and that she concealed it from police. They also allege that she told a victim of her husband to lie to police.
Lorene Martins is currently free on a $5,000 bond and is next scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 21.
Timothy Martins, who had been out on bond, was taken into custody after his sentencing. His defense attorney, Michael Clarke, said he would file an appeal and that an appellate defender would be appointed to Martins going forward.
