An Ottawa man was charged Wednesday with raping a 13-year-old in Douglas County.

Ernest Fredrick Ingram II, 22, was charged in Douglas County District Court with one count of rape, one felony count of furnishing alcohol to a minor with illicit purposes and a misdemeanor charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor, according to charging documents. Ingram was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies.

The charging documents allege that on Sept. 20, 2021, Ingram raped a 13-year-old child and also purchased alcohol for a child to encourage or induce the child to commit a sexual act. It wasn’t clear from the documents whether the charges were all related to the same child.

At Ingram’s first court appearance on Wednesday, Judge Blake Glover told Ingram that the rape charge was an off-grid felony and could result in life in prison if Ingram were convicted. Ingram appeared from the Douglas County Jail via Zoom and said that he has retained Albert Harris as his defense attorney.

Ingram is being held at the jail on a $150,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 15.

The Journal-World requested Ingram’s booking photo from the sheriff’s office but had not received a response as of late Wednesday afternoon.
