An Alabama man was charged Monday in Douglas County District Court with trading in child pornography.
The man, Jordan Lawrence Brantley, 25, of Jemison, Alabama, was charged with two counts of internet trading in child pornography and two counts of possessing media of a child. The charges are level-five felonies.
Brantley was arrested Sunday morning by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and is being held on a $10,000 bond, according to the jail log.
Brantley was convicted in Douglas County District Court of sexual exploitation of a child and attempted sexual exploitation of a child in May of 2020, and he was sentenced by Judge Amy Hanley to 68 months, which was suspended to probation, according to court records.
During his first appearance Monday, Douglas County Senior Assistant District Attorney David Greenwald said that Brantley’s bond was too low and asked Judge Blake Glover to raise it to a $50,000 bond. He said Brantley’s prior conviction and the fact that Brantley’s listed address is in Alabama made Brantley a flight risk.
Greenwald said that the new charges occurred before the previous charges he was convicted of and not while he was on probation.
Brantley appeared via Zoom from the Douglas County Jail and said to Glover that he would accept whatever bond he was given since he was unlikely to make bond regardless of the amount.
Glover said he was going to keep the bond set where it was and appointed Michael Clarke to be Brantley’s defense attorney. Brantley’s next court appearance is set for June 15.
