Two Leavenworth men have been charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary in connection with an incident at a Lawrence apartment complex.

Blake William Brown, 21, and Nasir Rahman Ali Penny, 20, were each charged on Friday with three counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary. The charges are high-level felonies.

The charges are in connection with an incident on June 28, when Brown and Penny allegedly entered an apartment at The Reserve apartment complex, 2511 W. 31st St., without permission and used a handgun to rob the apartment’s three occupants of their liquor and beer, according to charging documents.

Brown and Penny were arrested around 4 p.m. Thursday during a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Iowa Street, said Laura McCabe, spokesperson with the Lawrence Police Department.

“Witnesses told us multiple suspects, some armed with guns, forced their way into the apartment and stole a variety of items. Four suspects related to that incident have been arrested. Not everyone in the car was a part of the initial incident and were not taken into custody,” McCabe said.

Two other men, Trevon Andrew Anderson, 19, and Isaiah Jawone Mabry, 21, were charged earlier on Thursday with identical felony counts of robbery and burglary in connection to the same incident.

Brown and Penny were given the same bond amounts as the other two men, a $60,000 cash bond, and all four men are currently being held at the Douglas County Jail as of Tuesday morning.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office declined to release their booking photos.
