A Lawrence man was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder in connection with an incident last year in North Lawrence, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Jermey Anthony Johnson, 24, was arrested late Wednesday afternoon in the 2400 block of Packer Road in Lawrence, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman George Diepenbrock said Johnson was arrested in connection with an incident that took place on Aug. 1, 2021. The incident is listed in police call logs for that date as a disturbance with weapons that took place shortly after 2 a.m. in the 900 block of North Second Street. Diepenbrock said that deputies had a warrant for Johnson’s arrest in connection with the incident, and that they identified a vehicle associated with him and were able to take him into custody.

Diepenbrock didn’t provide any additional information about the incident in August 2021. However, the strip club Allstars is located at 913 N. Second St., in the block where the incident took place, and in legal filings in a lawsuit against the club, the City of Lawrence has alleged that on Aug. 1, 2021, multiple weapons were discharged on the premises.

Johnson is being held on a $100,000 cash bond, according to the Douglas County Jail booking log.
